FORTUN
AT THE FOOT OF JOTUNHEIMEN
Fortun is a cosy village in the west of Norway, located between one of the longest fjords in the world and the highest mountain- crossing in Norway. The tourist road climbs the steep mountain up from the narrow valley surrounded by mountain peaks. Streams and waterfalls gathers in the river, which is magnificent for salmon fishing. After being closed for fishing for many  years, it reopened in the summer of 2012. The village, with a scattered population, inhabits about 130 persons. Along the valley, you will find many farms with animals grazing the fields. In the centre lies the church, a boarding house, the local shop, a trainingcentre and the village assembly house. The village also has a power-station and a car repair shop with a service station.
Above the village, as a port to Jotunheimen National Park, you find Turtagrø, with a view to Skagastølstindane in the middle of Hurrungane. This area is a center to a number of magnificent walks and known as the mountain sports cradle in Norway.In the winter you can go backcountry skiing. For the ski-enthusiast, it is also possible to use the Summerskicentre. This is open all summer, if the snow conditions allow it.
There are also opportunities for hunting and fishing. The reindeer tribe located in the west of Jotunheimen can also be found in this area.
